Don’t Miss Your Sign

The New Year brings the arrival of liberation and renewal and Luke clears the passageway of our expectations where Luke 1:41 says “when Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.”  Elizabeth goes on to say in verse 44 that “as soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy”.  This was a leap for joy because something inside Elizabeth responded to expectation-factor that resided in Mary.

Jesus reinforces this truth by declaring in Luke 4:18-19 that; “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.  He sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lords favor.”  For Luke, the presence of Jesus signals the arrival of liberation and that’s what this season is all about.  The New Year says renewal and liberation are imminent! No matter how long it’s been going on, reversal is imminent!  No matter how bad it’s been, renewal is possible!  No matter how deplorable, depleting or degrading it has been, liberation is possible!

Luke says a woman had been suffering from bleeding for 12-years, and she had spent all she had.  She had exhausted everything she had and no one up until this point had solved her issue. She had visited doctor after doctor, participated in trial after trial, taken drug after drug and the only thing she had to show for it was an empty bank account and diminished expectations. With each failed attempt to find resolution, a slice of her expectation was slithered away.

Luke says that 12-years had passed but a change was about to come.  She was in line with everybody else but she defied limitations. This woman was in line, with an issue that if anybody knew she had, they would stone her.  Her issue was so bad that if she came into contact with anybody, she would have be stoned to death, but renewal had just shown up and she was not about to let it pass.  She had been just been given the opportunity of a lifetime and she didn’t let it pass her by.  The text says “she came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.”

She was caught in a crowd that almost crushed Him, but she pressed her way through the madness.  She was determined not to let her situation keep her from her restoration and let me encourage you, don’t let your opportunity for change pass you by! Regardless of what has been, God has come right to where you are with the opportunity of a lifetime!
